The good thing is that there are a few things you can do to handle these types of egotistical players.
First and foremost, if you run into a macho jerk the best thing you can do is ignore them. Players like this thrive on the constant attention. They want you to start paying attention to their comments and looks so that you are not watching your cards. And then when you do this they will win the hand, and then continue to talk even more. So the best thing that you can do is ignore them from the start. If they do not get any attention, chances are that they will give up sooner rather than later.
If you absolutely must say something back to them try to make it short and sweet. The worst thing you can do is get into a running dialog with a macho jerk. Remember, he or she has much more experience in that field than you do. For this reason you are playing into their hands. You are concentrating on them, while they are concentrating on annoying you as well as their cards. Send a one liner back and let it be at that. This way they get the point, but you do not lose track of what you are doing.
And finally, the most effective way to shut down a macho jerk is by beating them and walking away with their money in your pocket. Nothing annoys a person like this worse than ignoring them and still winning. When this happens not only do they know that they looked stupid at the table, but they also have to walk away with less money in their pockets. Beating a macho jerk and taking their money will solve the problem in no time.
Overall, poker is filled with all kinds of different people. You will come across quiet players, as well as those who are complete jerks. If you want to be the best player that you can, you will need to learn how to deal with these jerks. Eventually you will run into a couple of them, and knowing what to do will increase your chances of winning.
