Do you think that the poker commercials that have been on television lately are a bit too sexist? There have been a few lately that seem like they are selling sexy women more than poker to me.

Yes we do know where their brains are located. I think that we are better off to just accept the sexiness that is in these ads. We still live in a man's world and as long as we do there will not be any changes.

I laughed 2 years ago when Janet Jackson had her wardrobe malfunction during the halftime show, why? Because the FCC and everyone else through a hissy fit because it was on national TV, yet they allow herpes commericals, tampon and sexy lingerie ads all over the TV. Even on childrens channels like Nick. The gov't wants to stop online gambling and porn sites, yet allows tv commercials be blatently sexy. WRONG! |

Although we feel strongly about selling sex, the truth is despite what we say, thats how its going to be, I mean we do have activist who spend years trying to break the wall to stop exploiting females, but its still the same.

I don't know what Nick you are watching but the one here doesn't have any advertisements that are not related to kids toys and stuff. As far as accepting that sex sells, I also feel that we have no choice but to accept it and move on.

It's not just the sexy women in the ads, but advertisers during poker tournaments are completely ignoring the female market, even though poker is becoming more popular among women viewers and players. Advertisements for the tournaments and the companies pushing their products present neutral objects as the property of cigar smoking macho men...the slogan for a beer commercial is "for a man's taste", and several of the other ads are all about manhood, virility...I think that companies are being sexist but also making dumb business decisions about the content of their ads, considering the purchasing power that women have in today's economy, and the rising visibility of women in poker
