There are many ways to improve your poker playing skills, especially for female players. When you are playing live (in the casino), you can learn all sorts of things about other players' tells, and learn to predict their style of betting. Additionally, you can work to perfect your own style using all of the assets God gave you, including flirting or playing the meek and mild woman to get more information.
However, one thing that top female players agree on is that money management is an essential skill for female players who want to make it in the mostly male-dominated world of professional poker. Money management is also a great skill to have if you are playing online poker games or just playing for "fun."
One of the first rules of good poker money management is to choose the game that best suits your bankroll. Even though it may seem like a good idea to build your winnings fast with a high-stakes table, it is always best to play at a lower stakes table if you have a limited bankroll. For one, you will be able to play longer. Consider that a $1,500 bankroll will be eaten up very quickly at a $20/$40 table, but will last for hours at a $3/$6 table.
Remember that you want to win, and to do so you will need as many chances as possible. By choosing the table that best suits your budget, you will have this chance. Another reason for choosing the right game is the quality of your opponents. You see, you are more likely to run into highly skilled players at the high stakes tables, while there are sure to be players you can beat at the lower stakes tables.
Another key to good poker money management is to be careful which hands you raise and call. Some female poker players prefer to be conservative, especially if there are many aggressive male players at the table. With a game such as Texas Hold'em, some aggressive players will initiate raises with sub-par hands. If you become caught up in these raises and calls, you may end up losing in a much higher pot than you would normally have played. Now, this is not to say that you should be timid but rather be selective and sure you have good cards before you start betting serious money.
Finally, it is a good idea to bank some of your winnings each day. By doing so, you can build up a stake for future play, or just save some money to be sure that even if you start losing you will not go completely broke. You also want to resist the temptation to try to increase your winnings by playing other games, especially pit games that rely too much on chance such as Blackjack or Roulette. If you want to be a poker player, build your bankroll on skill and good money management, not by taking chances on games that take away your control of the action!
